CVP Proposal Tria: Onboard millions onto Metis with Web2-like UX

Introduction

Tria is: One name for all things web3 – a full-stack wallet infrastructure to seamlessly onboard natives and non-natives onto Web3 applications.

Problem

As a web3 community, we are all very well-versed with the issues we currently face in Web3 user onboarding and convoluted user journeys. Metis network is no exception to that. Two big onboarding issues at hand:

  • Metamask, Coinbase, and other Web3 wallets are too complex for non-natives
  • Social onboarding primitives such as Web3Auth, Privy, and more onboard users to one dApp at a time, creating isolated economies. (i.e., no/low composability)

A Gmail account lets you use any Web2 application. Similarly, one metamask lets you connect to any dApp on EVM-compatible chains. But since Metamask is too complex for non-natives – we need another universally portable primitive with an easy-to-understand user journey that helps new users onboard the entire Web3 or entire metis ecosystem at once.

Tria

At Tria, we envision onboarding millions of new users onto Metis using DID-based onboarding. We are proud to say we are one of first to do this in web3 industry. Think Gmail, but for Web3. Use @metis names to log in, pay, and transact on any blockchain, dApp, and device – without ever downloading a client-side wallet – all powered by Tria’s Layer 0-based infrastructure, Super Layer

Tria’a SDKs provide a comprehensive set of tools and infrastructure for decentralized applications, enabling a Web2-like, user-friendly experience. Tria’s portable social-login accounts create interconnected economies amongst dApps, to foster stronger user acquisition and partnership opportunities.

Products

  1. Onboarding SDKs – onboarding both Web3 (EOAs) and Web2 (Socials, Email & Phone)
  2. User-focused, multi-chain embedded Wallets
  3. Tria user-facing web application
  4. iOS and Android application
  5. A stealth, LLAM (large language and action models) powered crypto chatbot.

Tria is currently in stealth and raised its first pre-seed round in Q2 2023 from a total of 16 tier-one investors, angels, and advisors.

Traction to date

  • Native naming service for a couple of top 20 CMC L1s (going live in Q2-Q3)
  • L1 and L2 Blockchains: Native onboarding solution to an L2 (announcing soon). In-talks along similar lines with 4 more (EVM, Polkadot, Cosmos, and Bitcoin ecosystem).
  • Dapps: 5+ mid-sized early customers have integrated Tria. 15+ in pipeline.
  • Enterprise Customers: In late-stage discussions with entities in the United Nations to implement Tria’s DIDs in humanitarian aid.
  • Ecosystems: Closely working with major ecosystems on DIDs, Onboarding, UX and Infrastructure. (to name a few – Polygon, Binance, Manta, Berachain, Fuse)

Tech

Super Layer (SL) is a symphony of Web3 excellence – intersecting client-side primitives, peer-to-peer omni-chain communication, decentralized enclaves and ephemeral computation units – all purposed toward enabling a rich and wallet-less, composable Web3 UX.

Hi Tria. Love the proposal you are offering. I think it’s very important especially if your DID method will help against Sybil attacks.

  1. Does Tria have some sort of Proof of Humanity feature to protect against bots and Sybil Attacks? Defending against Sybils is very important for Metis Governance and having a solid DID system is needed for Reputation-based Governance.

  2. I think the Google similarity is great except for the part that Google knows everything about a person’s digital life. Does Tria preserve a person’s privacy? Do you use zero knowledge to verify identities without revealing them?

  3. What is revealed externally about a person through Tria’s DID system? Is personal data sharing based on the user’s consent at all times?

  4. Are there any ways a person can monetize their personal data held within their Tria DID?

  5. How is Tria unique and different from other DID solutions such as Onto and GitCoin Passport?

Sorry lots of questions but I’m very curious and intrigued by your proposal!

Thanks for your questions @rlntlss.eth

We do plan to target sybil issues with reputation aggregation, but Tria’s primary focus currently is to onboard the non-natives to Web3 (using familiar primitives) – like names and passwords (like Google) or interoperable social login wallets that are clientless. Keeping the current focus in mind, here’s our high-level thought process.

1, 2 and 3. We plan to use zkKYC to prove uniqueness (to be used in specific cases – for eg. governance). Additionally, we’re are working on a few KYC methods to enable frictionless PoU/Proof of Humanity with partner ecosystems – to an extent where some users wouldn’t even need to KYC to have PoU/H. Tria doesn’t require/use any users’ KYC or Web2 accounts, but we enable users to store PII/KYC governed by their smart accounts If they wish to share it with dApps/ecosystems.

TLDR; User privacy will be preserved at all times and we are testing/exploring different options with partner dapps and ecosystems.

  1. Not yet, but technically possible. This is in our ideabank. Requires us to be fairly scaled, though.

  2. Current DIDs aren’t used to onboard users to Web3. (i.e., users need to create a crypto wallet first – where most of the onboarding friction is (seeds, client-dependencies, interoperability, etc). Tria onboards users to all chains at once using mostly free DIDs/names and enables a wallet-less, omni-chain, Gmail-like solution. No seeds, or downloads.

I kind of figured the main offering right now was frictionless onboarding into Web3 with a seamless google-like identity. Thats a huge innovation to Web3. Seems like yall are thinking about and ready to implement the other features I asked about when possible. Great to hear. Thanks for the thorough answers! Great stuff guys, and good luck! I think your project is a valuable addition.

I love the concept of your proposal but What are the key technical challenges you anticipate in implementing the Super Layer (SL) architecture, particularly regarding client-side primitives, peer-to-peer omni-chain communication, and decentralized enclaves, to achieve a rich and wallet-less, composable Web3 user experience?
