Apply for the Metis Gitcoin Grants Program: Gitcoin | Explorer

Eligibility Criteria and Program Overview

Introduction

Gitcoin and Metis are collaborating to support the growth and development of the Metis ecosystem through a series of funding rounds. These rounds will allocate funds to support contributions to projects building on Metis and integrating them with Metis’ Community Ecosystem Governance (CEG) process over time.

The Quadratic Found round is the first in a series of grants opportunities and contribution pathways that will enable active projects to secure ongoing funding needed to deploy and grow on Metis. The round focuses on identifying high-impact projects, validated by community demand. Following the initial QF round, projects that show promise will receive continued support through retroactive funding and direct grants.

Objectives

  • Encourage community involvement and signaling through Quadratic Funding (QF). The budget for this round will be $100K
  • Reward previous contributions to the Metis ecosystem via Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RPGF). This round’s budget is $100K.
  • Direct grants will be used to drive targeted support for high-potential impact projects. The budget for these grants is $50K.
  • Integrate Gitcoin’s Grant Stack with Metis’ CEG process to create a seamless experience for projects and stakeholders.

Program Philosophy

  • Collaborative Approach: We encourage projects that seek to complement and enhance existing initiatives rather than competing directly against them. The success of this round is viewed as a collective achievement, benefiting the entire Metis ecosystem.
  • Long-term Vision: We value projects demonstrating a commitment to sustained impact and growth within the Metis ecosystem. This round may be part of a series of recurring funding opportunities, and projects showing long-term potential will be well-positioned for future support.
  • Community-Driven Success: The collaborative nature and positive community engagement in this round will influence the planning of future funding opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Metis Ecosystem Contributions

Projects must focus on contributing to the growth, development, and enhancement of the Metis ecosystem within one or more of the following themes:

a. Memecoins:

  • Community members want to participate in a project fairly and find consensus with other holders.
  • A memecoin that is inclusive, fun, and non-offensive can resonate well across cultural boundaries.

b. Games:

  • Innovative gaming models are anticipated, not just selling NFTs.
  • We are looking for PvP games, sports and racing games, puzzle games, social games, and other genres.

c. RWA (Real World Assets):

  • Blockchain can connect with the real world, creating value by addressing actual issues in the physical world.
  • Metis can help enhance transparency, improve liquidity, enable fractional ownership, and facilitate more efficient transactions, transforming traditional asset management and trading.

d. On-Chain Society:

  • Various use cases will emerge, such as on-chain identity, on-chain attestation, on-chain collaborations, charities and NGOs, and the formation of social groups and cultural clusters.

Proposals should outline how the project will create value for the Metis community and platform users. Both past projects contributing to the Metis ecosystem and new projects with a forward-looking vision are eligible to participate.

2. Community Engagement and Impact

  • Projects should demonstrate a commitment to engaging with the Metis and broader Web3 community.
  • Projects should demonstrate a proactive approach to self-marketing and community engagement. This includes participating in community events, creating educational content about their project, and actively engaging with the Metis community on social media platforms.
  • Proposals should outline strategies for driving user adoption and fostering a supportive environment for other projects within the ecosystem.

3. Technical Feasibility and Roadmap

  • Projects must present a clear and feasible roadmap detailing milestones and deliverables over time.
  • Proposals should showcase the team’s expertise and ability to execute the project successfully within the proposed timeline.

4. Funding and Budget

  • Proposals should articulate how they would utilize the funds to maximize the project’s ongoing impact within the Metis ecosystem.

5. Ethical and Community Standards

  • No Hateful Content: We firmly stand against discrimination and hate speech.
  • Deceiving Users: Prohibited is any content that could harm users or lead to unintended consequences.
  • Falsification: Attempts to falsify contributions, including Sybil attacks or other manipulative practices, are strictly banned.
  • Fraud & Impersonation: Projects must accurately represent their affiliation and intentions to maintain transparency and trust.
  • No Quid Pro Quo & Bribery: Incentives in exchange for donations are disallowed, maintaining the integrity of the contribution process. For this round, we will follow Gitcoin’s standard for QPQ.
  • Advertising Restrictions: Utilizing grants for direct promotional activities or sales is prohibited.
  • Legal Compliance: Mandatory compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for participation.
  • Positive Community Interaction: Projects are expected to maintain a supportive attitude towards other participants, contributing to a collaborative and constructive funding environment.

Application Process

The application process for participation in this program will be as follows:

  1. Builder Profile Creation: create a builder profile on Gitcoin’s Grant Stack, providing basic information such as the project’s name, website, team, Github, and previous rounds of using Grants Stack.
  2. Grant Application: Projects will apply to Metis-hosted grant rounds on Grant Stack. The application will include details about the project’s mission, team, previous funding, and roadmap.
  3. Application Review: The Metis team will review and provide input on the applications using Gitcoin’s Checker AI/LLM tool (as needed) and ensure projects meet the eligibility criteria for each funding round.
  4. Fund Disbursement and Monitoring: Gitcoin will disburse funds to successful grantees and provide ongoing support to meet milestones. The Metis community will receive regular reporting and updates through established CEG channels.

Evaluation Process

  • Proposals will be reviewed by a committee comprising representatives from Gitcoin and Metis.
  • Projects will be evaluated based on their adherence to the eligibility criteria, potential impact, and alignment with the funding round’s objectives.
  • The committee will aim to onboard as many projects as possible to support diverse initiatives within the Metis ecosystem.
  • The CEG/CVP Process is not required to enter the initial QF Round. If accepted, participation in the QF Round will help projects qualify for CEG/CVP.
